El Yunque wedding

We sometimes hear from couples who want a wedding in El Yunque, one of Puerto Rico’s many treasures. Measuring about forty square miles, El Yunque is the country’s only tropical rainforest. It’s an interesting place to visit, but we don’t always recommend that couples have an El Yunque wedding.

Crowds at El Yunque

We find most couples who are interested in an El Yunque wedding are seeking lush foliage and mountains and waterfalls as their wedding backdrop. Unfortunately, most of the scenic places in El Yunque that are easily accessible to couples in wedding attire are also easily accessible to tour buses and cruise ship excursions. The waterfalls, as well as the paths and roads to get there, get VERY crowded.

Weather and permits at El Yunque

Also, as a tropical rainforest, El Yunque can also be quite hot and humid and muggy. In addition, the rules and permits required to be married in public places in El Yunque tend to fluctuate without notice.

Staying at El Yunque

It is possible to rent an AirBnb or house in El Yunque and have your wedding there. However, if you’re open to that, it makes sense to consider other mountainous areas in Puerto Rico. The interior of the island is absolutely stunning, and so much fun to explore and discover.

Our Recommendation

Our recommendation if you are looking for an El Yunque wedding? Avoid the crowds and enjoy a beautiful wedding at a stunning waterfall in the center of western Puerto Rico. Gozalandia Falls is everything you want in a tropical rainforest….lush foliage, meandering paths, and multiple waterfalls to explore and enjoy. There is no entrance fee and parking is only $5. There’s even a great local restaurant serving fresh squeezed juices. If that’s not enough, when Hollywood needed a beautiful and epic Puerto Rican waterfall in the filming of A Perfect Getaway, Gozalandia Falls was the place.
