Our couples love that their Puerto Rico destination wedding will be beautiful, effortless and, at times, a bit adventurous. Sometimes, we have uninvited guests of the best kind. In this month’s edition of The Latest we share our favorite animal wedding crashers.
You never know what you’ll get with a wedding in Puerto Rico, but it will always be magical, especially if you love nature and animals as much as we do!
Wedding Crasher: Animal Edition
Our favorite wedding crashers are part of the family at Hacienda222. Our miniature donkeys, Bomba and Plena, joined us almost two years ago and have been winning over hearts since. They are full-grown and are currently training to carry coolers of our local Medalla beer for our wedding guests.
Their sister Pippi Longstocking is a spirited miniature mule that is smart as a whip and full of character.
Yama is one of our resident rescue ‘satos’. Satos are the hearty mixed-breed dogs that free-range in Puerto Rico; we like to think of Tramp from Lady & The Tramp. Read more about satos at The Sato Project.
Devi is another sato, and the most social of the Hacienda222 animals, always ready to offer emotional support for our guests who are missing their furry friends back home.
Our artisan-made copper weathervane is a tribute to some of our favorite wedding crashers at Hacienda222. Between the months of January & April, humpback whales migrate along the west coast of Puerto Rico. Hacienda222’s spectacular cliffside vantage point is the perfect place to watch as the mamas teach their calves to jump out of the water!
Hacienda222 is not our only location where you might see an animal visitor. This regal iguana made an apperance at the wedding of Maddy & Jimmy at The Ruins of Aguadilla. Not to worry, he enjoyed the festivities from afar!
Cobitos, or small hermit crabs, are often found climbing on our beaches and rocks. Indeed, at Puerto Hermina, the parking area is closed for several weeks every summer for their mating season.
Our adventure elopements at Gozalandia Falls often resuts in sightings of all kinds of varieties of fish, and we always say hi to the resident turtles that live in the pond above the falls.
Fatima was joined by graceful pelicans as her father walked her down the aisle at Puerto Hermina.
At one of our beach weddings, a friendly passerby offered Charlotte & Norman a ride on his horse as a wedding day gift and extra-special photos.
Here is what one of our happy couples had to say about their experience:
“I have no idea how ya’ll did what you did the day of…I wish I could describe it better but it’s so hard to put into words. Everything was beyond perfect. Every little detail was thought of. AND THE ANIMALS!!! Oh, they were so wonderful. Every wedding should have teacup chickens and dogs. I grew up on a farm so I felt right at home. I still can’t get over that even Devi had a sunflower ribbon around her neck. The craftsmanship of this wedding was impeccable. It was my dream wedding come true.”
