Nightlife in West Puerto Rico

Here in Puerto Rico it’s often said, “The West is the Best,” and we couldn’t agree more! From the most beautiful beaches, to the friendliest locals, it’s no wonder that every weekend, especially in summertime, roads from San Juan are clogged with locals heading to the west, for fun, sun, and, especially partying!

We often hear from our couples interested in having their wedding and staying in the west of Puerto Rico, but they wonder about activities, including nightlife. Rest assured, there are plenty of nightlife and party opportunities in the west! Here’s our guide to nightlife in the west of Puerto Rico.

Nightlife in the west of Puerto Rico tends to be a bit different than in the big city. It starts earlier, as we love our sunshine and beach time, and of course our legendary sunsets. There are no dress codes and everyone you’ll meet is relaxed and likely to start up a conversation with all around. If beach bars, local and live music, and a convivial setting where you’re guaranteed to make friends and meet colorful characters sounds fun, then the west is for you!

Here are five of our own insider tips on how to party like the locals in Puerto Rico’s west:

Beach safari

Tu Mojito is a great little dive bar and the Baskin Robbins of mojitos. Tip: Order a 32-oz mojito in your choice of 30+ local tropical flavors. And take it to go, for a beach safari day of Isabela beaches- Villa Pesquera, Pozo Teodoro, Golondrinas, Montones, and more.

Jobos Beach

The beach bars of Playa Jobos are some of the most happening on the island, with something always going on, day and night. Tip: Start at one end and walk the beach, popping in for cold ones and live music. You’re sure to find a good time at one of the 10+ bars, kiosks, and food trucks. Options are endless from Uma’s to Palo to  Sonido del Mar.

Legendary sunsets

Capture an Aguadilla sunset at Crashboat Beach or Rompeolas. At Crashboat you can check out Cocoloba Beach Bar, a great beachfront spot that often has live music. If you opt for Rompleolas Beach, Rompeolas bar & grill is worth a visit. Continue on to the uber-trendy speakeasy Timber & Blues for award-winning cocktails (at a fraction of the price of what you’ll pay in the San Juan metro area). Tip: Enjoy easy and casual dining options for everyone while walking the Aguadilla boardwalk, filled with kiosks and food stalls.

Rincon Art Walk

Every Thursday night, local artisans fill the plaza of Rincon with their talents. Food, drink, and music are all on hand, and it’s a great place to buy locally-made souvenirs while here. Tip: Rincon Beer Company is a super locally-run and operated microbrewery with live music and art almost always on hand!

Barhop the uber-hip 110 corridor

There’s always a party, somewhere, along highway 110, from the BQN airport to the beach road turnoff. Restaurants, bars, food truck parks, happening gas station parking lots (true)…all can be found! Tip: El Chalet not only has rum, whiskey, and cigars, all at west Puerto Rico prices, they also have a great selection of bar games, and you can learn to play dominoes like the locals.
