Top Five Reasons Why you Might Consider a Symbolic Ceremony
We are committed to providing you with the latest information on getting legally married in Puerto Rico. Our blog includes detailed information about getting a Puerto Rican marriage license and marriage requirements for Puerto Rico. But we understand that having a legal or civil ceremony isn’t for everyone. In fact, in an earlier post about symbolic weddings, we shared one of the wedding industry’s best-kept secrets… Many weddings are actually symbolic, not legal, in nature (you’ve probably unknowingly attended a few yourself!) It is not at all uncommon to have a beautiful wedding ceremony and leave the paperwork for later. Or alternatively, many couples who were legally married by a justice of the peace are contacting us now for a more meaningful and beautiful symbolic ceremony. Here are five things to know about symbolic ceremonies.
#5 You don’t need to be legally married.
Plenty of couples want a beautiful ceremony to express their love for each other but don’t feel the need to have a piece of paper making it legal. We understand that and are happy to make your wedding dreams come true.
#4 You don’t have enough time.
Although we have helped many couples to get legally married on short notice (24 hours or less, even!), there are occasions when the timing just doesn’t work out. We are still happy to make your beautiful Puerto Rican wedding happen!
#3 You’d rather not worry about paperwork on your vacation.
While it is easier than ever to get legally married in Puerto Rico (You don’t even have to go to a government office. We take care of everything online before you get here!), some couples prefer to take care of the legalities at home so that they can check off one of their wedding planning boxes ahead of time. And we are ok with that!
#2 You’d rather have your legal marriage registered somewhere else.
Many of our couples have a tie to Puerto Rico, whether it be because they have Puerto Rican ancestry, or were born and raised on the island and are now living elsewhere. For these couples, having a marriage license in Puerto Rico carries great sentiment. We understand that the reverse can be true as well. Maybe you want to register your marriage at the same county courthouse where your grandparents were married 50 years ago. No problem, we can perform your beautiful symbolic ceremony here and you can honor your own family and heritage in a special way back home.
#1 It’s your choice!
Many couples don’t know that they have the option to have a symbolic ceremony. No matter your reason, we want you to know this is a great option! We strive to make your wedding day as stress-free and easy as possible, and if for you that means having a symbolic ceremony, then we are happy to help!
We love to be part of planning dream weddings, whether legal or symbolic. We consider it a privilege to share in your special day and we’d love to hear how we can help you with the wedding of your dreams!
