What is a Symbolic Wedding?

We’re often asked if it’s possible to have a beautiful wedding ceremony, without dealing with all the paperwork. (Even though we’ve streamlined the process for our couples, and it’s never been easier to be legally married in Puerto Rico. Read more about it here.) The answer is yes! A ceremony without the paperwork is called a symbolic wedding ceremony and it is more common than you might think. A symbolic wedding has the same look and feel as a legal or civil wedding ceremony, without any of the documentation and signatures after your ceremony (or preparation of paperwork in the weeks beforehand). It’s actually a bit of a wedding industry secret that many weddings are symbolic in nature, as the couple is often legally married in advance for practical or logistical reasons.
