We’re always amazed to see how so much of the beautiful island of Puerto Rico gets so little online attention. There are so many options beyond visiting Old San Juan or taking a trip to El Yunque Rainforest. While they make lovely day trips, like most Puerto Ricans, we think the real magic of Puerto Rico is found on the west side of Puerto Rico, home to the most beautiful beaches, and the friendliest locals. Here are a few ideas of things to do on the west side of Puerto Rico.
#5 Gozalandia Falls
You may have seen Gozalandia Falls in some of our wedding videos. Not only does this location make for a stunning wedding venue, it is also a super fun day trip! There’s no need to share your day in a tropical rainforest with busloads of tourists, as in El Yunque, as Gozalandia Falls are two waterfalls on privately owned land. For a fee of only $10 per car, you can enjoy a day swimming in the waterfall, hiking around the property, and jumping in the water, if you dare! Be sure to check out Sha’s, the on-property restaurant and bar where you can enjoy local fare and a refreshing mojito.
#4 Playa Crash Boat
One of Puerto Rico’s favorite beaches is the beautiful and beloved Crash Boat beach in Aguadilla. It’s great for swimming, diving, snorkeling, people watching, partying, and so much more… Take a tour with local Captain Roberto at Crash Boat Experiences to experience the surroundings, from the spot where Christopher Columbus made landfall in the new world, to the rookery of almost one hundred endangered pelicans. Some are trained and will visit!
#3 Horseback riding on a deserted beach
Ever dream of sunset on horseback on a deserted beach? The folks at Tropical Trail Rides have you covered, taking you to the most exquisite deserted beach where you can swim, explore caves, and more.
#2 Explore the underwater world
The west side of Puerto Rico is also home to the island’s best underwater world. Manatees, dolphins, whales, rays, turtles, sea horses, and more, are all common dive and snorkel sightings in the west of Puerto Rico. Aquatica Dive & Surf offers dive and snorkeling lessons and toursis based in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. They offer scuba diving tours, snorkeling tours and stand up paddleboarding tours that’ll showcase Puerto Rico’s natural beauty and give you memories to last a lifetime.
#1 Learn to surf, or SUP
Follow the call of the waves, like so many westside visitors before you, and learn to surf, or stand-up paddleboard. PR Surf Adventures can hook you up with all you need, from lessons and adventure tours and advice about all the best spots, to all the latest boards and equipment. They’ll get you riding in no time!
