Are you considering a destination wedding? We recommend working with a wedding planner, or choosing a wedding package that takes all the guesswork out of our special day. But how does one choose a company or a team when you’re so far away? Here are five things to look for in a Wedding planner for a destination wedding.
#5 Are they legit?
Reputation is everything, and a company’s digital presence speaks volumes. Here are a few considerations: Is this an official business? Is it registered or incorporated (don’t be afraid to ask for documentation)? Is a company’s digital marketing, from website to social media, active and up-to-date? Do they have a good, verifiable track record? How many destination weddings do they do? Look for photos from their own weddings, not stock photos, as well as specific reviews from couples.
#4 Responsiveness
Everyone deserves answers and responses in a timely manner, especially couples navigating a destination wedding. When you’re searching for a wedding planner for your destination wedding, if someone isn’t responsive to your inquiries in advance of your booking, they won’t be responsive after you’ve booked. Island culture doesn’t always value timeliness, so be sure that your team is a good fit for your expectations.
#3 Experts in the legal requirements
A destination wedding is more than a beautiful venue and stunning decor. You’ll need a team of experts in the requirements to get legally married in your destination and that can guide you through the process at every step. They’ll need to have direct connections to the government offices to troubleshoot anything that comes up. Ask questions and be sure that they know the answers.
#2 Consider a wedding package, not a wedding planner
Many of our couples choose one of our wedding packages instead of searching for a wedding planner for a destination wedding. It allows them to leave all the details to the experts, allowing them to enjoy their vacation, and only show up on their wedding day (read more here)!
#1 Do they fit your vision?
We started by recommending you check out a company’s digital media presence as a way to see if they are a reputable and current company. While you are there, spend some time learning their style and vibe. For instance, we specialize in beach and waterfall weddings in beautiful and natural settings. If someone wants a 200-person wedding in a cathedral followed by a dinner in a hotel ballroom, then it’s not a good fit for us. It makes things much simpler in your planning process when you choose a company that already gets you.
